About the yoga:

The morning yoga class will be 1 hr and 30 minutes of vinyasa flow, fluid meditative movement that reflects Rae's background in ethnic dance and martial arts as well as various styles of yoga, and shavasana. The imagery is often maya-based. The classes are appropriate for all levels, with suggested modifications for those wishing to work more strongly. Beginning with the premise that yoga is highly personal, participants are encouraged to follow their own intuition in choosing how much to practice, for how long, and to what intensity. Some of the classes will be open to Maya women from the village. There will be an optional silent meditation period at sunrise.

About the lake:

This lake, often called the most beautiful in the world, is located in the western highlands of Guatemala. It is truly a jewel in its natural beauty, and in the rich traditional life of the indigenous people who live in small villages along its shores. Surrounded by mountains and volcanoes, it provides the transportation system for community life today - one sees boats ferrying locals and travellers from village to village, as well as the picturesque cayucas, wooden dug-out canoes which fishermen use.

About the hotel and restaurant:

Posada de Santiago is a world-class hotel with a delicious, gourmet restaurant. It is located on the shore of Lake Atitlan , amid views of volcanoes and fascinating glimpses of Tz'utujil Maya life – fishermen rowing their wooden boats in the misty early morning, women washing clothes in the lake, everyone walking up and down the road with impossible bundles balanced on their heads. The accomodations will be in a beautiful and spacious stone suite (2 bedrooms with shared bath for 2 people), plus two stone cottages (each with private bath). There is a small garden outside each accomodation. The hotel has a lakeside swimming pool, hot tub and sauna, in addition to other lovely common spaces.

The restaurant offers the best food at the lake. It is delicious, healthy and freshly prepared on the premises. We will have a light breakfast buffet (fresh tropical fruit, yogurt, breads, tea and coffee), and vegetarian lunches (sometimes packed, if we are on the go), with vegetarian gourmet dinners (sometimes including seafood). The bread is freshly baked, the fruit drinks unique, the salsas and condiments inventive and home-made.
